Tied for first, again

2014 South Oakland Ducks, pittsburgh NABA

The Lions beat the WOLFPACK!!! 7-4 last week, and due to technical difficulties, the game hasn’t been updated in the standings as of Friday night.

Here is an episode of Thundercats in Spanish.

Theme song should be someone on the Lions’ walkup music.

Your South Oakland Ducks are tied for first at 7-3. However, West View currently holds the head to head tie breaker. We’re also only up one in the loss column on the Bombers and Lions. Should be a good race down the stretch.

The Ducks play next vs. the Titans (5-6). This Sunday, 1pm in Bellevue.

Game Day 8: Ducks vs. Bombers

2014 South Oakland Ducks, Gameday, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side

vs

Allegheny Bombers

9pm

Springview Field

South Oakland returns from the bye week to face the Bombers at home tonight.

The Ducks (5-2) have won two straight, and need a win to keep pace with the WOLFPACK! (6-2)

bomb pic

Unexpectedly, the Bombers (3-3) have lost two straight. Allegheny  dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to the seventh place Ted Kennedy’s Sunday night in Brookline and lost 5-2 to the ColonialsMatadors, Sharks, WOLFPACK! on Saturday. The Wolfpack are so intense! is so intense? Whatever. WOLFPACK!!!

I still think the Bombers are the team to beat and will be a tough out come playoff time. And that Joe Graff is a beast. It’s also likely Allegheny didn’t throw their best pitcher over the weekend so we will probably face him tonight.

039-Bomberman

Below are the standings as of May 19th. A lot has happened since we last played. So much rain.

I’m surprised the Monsters are under .500. they’ve gone 2-6 after starting 3-0, and had some trouble with the Titans. Their season is almost half over.

The Warriors are struggling to score runs, but have between 4 and 7 games at hand over several teams.

The Lioins and Bombers run differential.

You can get a weekend where you have three games and some key guys missing and  drop a few. In such a relatively short season, you just hope it doesn’t mean the difference between making the playoffs and not.

At 5-2 we’re in good shape.

A win puts us back in first place.

We’ve got our attorney on the hill tonight.

 Bad News for the Bombers.

Game Six Recap: Dr. Strangeglove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love Brian Strom.

2014 South Oakland Ducks, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

Ducks starter Brian Strom (w, 2-1) scattered 8 hits, walking 3 and beaning 4 batters over six strong innings of 2-run ball Sunday night in Moore Park, helping South Oakland (4-2) diffuse the Allegheny offense en route to an 8-2 Ducks victory.

Playing without the strong-bearded veteran leadership of the Commish, the Bombers (3-1) looked flustered out of the gate.

This guy took the hill for Allegheny*.

Bomberman_by_Gaston25

He allowed back to back doubles to Gwin and Culp and the Ducks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Culp stole third, Strom drew a walk. Matt Swetz collected his unofficial, team-leading 7th RBI of the season with a single to right.

Sorosky, formerly of the militia has been waiting for a chance to take out the Bombers for three years. He delivered a single to left to put the Ducks up 3-0.

Garrett Moore drove in a run with a single up the middle. 4-0 Ducks.

This is the best exclaimer image I could find.

With one out and runners on first and second, Alex Riley hit a ground ball to the shortstop who got the force at second. Moore sacrificed his pants with a hard slide and forced an arrant throw. Sorosky tried to score from second on the play, but the ball bounced hard off the wall behind first and came right back to the first baseman who blew up Sorosky at the plate. Classic 6-4-3-2 Double play.

communion pants

Who’s laughing now? Those communion pants were durable.

Strom faced 5 batters in the first and stranded runners on second and third after striking out some guy to end the inning.

The Bombers scored 2 in the second, but Strom pitched out of another jam and the Bombers left the bases loaded.

The Bombers third baseman can hit a little.

Timmy

Meanwhile, the Bombers pitcher had settled in and was in the process of retiring 9 straight Ducks with the help of a 4-6-3 double play. Judging by the Allegheny reaction, it was the first good play their infield ever made.

Fetter singled to lead off the fifth. He actually defused bombs in the military. After a Casale sac bunt, Gwin singled in pinch runner Shawn Dorsek to make the score 5-2 in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Strom allowed a triple a walk and struck out the side.  The Bombers could not get a big hit.

In the bottom of the sixth, with Bombers on first and second, Tony Casale made a sick diving play in the hole between third and short to get the force at third. Best play by a shortstop made in the game. Two groundouts later, the Bombers again left two men on base with nothing to show for it.

In the top of the seventh, The Ducks scored three runs on five hits to put it out of reach. Strom, Sorosky and Moore had RBI.

Fetter pitched the bottom of the 7th and struck out the Bomber’s 3rd baseman looking, then induced a double play to end the game.

  • Big early season win for the Ducks, missing a handful of regulars.
  • That ump called strikes a foot off the plate.
  • I love playing at Moore Park.
  • I think there will be 3 more good games between the Ducks and Bombers.
  • For a bunch of kids who have no idea how cruel and grim the world after college will be, the Bombers carry themselves well, and are probably laughing at my dated references on some weird, next-level social media platform that I will never understand.
  • I found an orange and gray hoodie someone left after the game.
  • Stanley Kubrick.
  • Don’t google “suicide bomber images.” It will make you sick.

South Oakland’s next game is Wednsday night 8pm at Springview Field vs. the Senators.

Senators (0-2)

12pm

Pie Traynor Field

South Oakland has won two straight and looks to remain undefeated in the season’s early going.

The Senators didn’t do very well last year. Better than the House, but still bad. Allowing 186 runs in 24 games, stalling bills with filibusters, and taking kickbacks from lobbyists.

Ducks Win: South Oakland 12, Carrick 2 (6)

2012 South Oakland Ducks Baseball, Ducks win

That’s more like it.

With the Ducks (8-6-2, 6-1) leading 3 – 2 in the 4th, Ken Cool kit a bases clearing double to increase the lead to 6 – 2, and South Oakland of the North Side cruised to a 12 – 2 victory behind another strong pitching performance from Randy Patton.

Swartwout and Gwin had 3 hits a piece and every Duck reached base at least once.

Casale played an exceptional game at second, walked and scored 4 times and stole three bases.

On separate occasions, Begley was hit by a pitch and Moore walked and stole second.

The Ducks have won seven of their last nine games, and play Carrick again on Monday June 18th before resuming divisional play against a rejuvenated Black Sox team in Brookline on the 23rd.

Ducks and the Sopranos

2012 South Oakland Ducks Baseball

I started  watching the Sopranos from the beginning a while back, and i’m on the second to last episode.

The Ducks did so much to add sympathy initially to Tony’s character. Very well done.

South Oakland opens division play at Cranberry, Sunday, 2pm.

Ducks Win 1-0 Thriller in 8

2011 Ducks Baseball, Bulldogs, Ducks win

Unrelated zeppelin song. Now for a letdown of a recap:

South Oakland of the North Side (7-2) won their seventh straight behind phenomenal pitching and timely hitting from the bottom of the lineup.

Ducks lefty, Mike Cinefra pitched a complete game, 1-hit shutout, striking out 12.

Ken Cool drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 8th.

Both pitchers threw exceptionally well. The Bulldogs’ guy allowed only 5 hits and went 7 and 2/3 with 9 Ks

The Bulldogs threatened in the second when Rankin hit a leadoff double to right but was stranded on 3rd after a K a groundout and another K.

In the top of the 7th, Ducks catcher James Fago threw out a runner trying to take third on a past ball to end the inning.

This was the first Ducks Bulldogs game in which we held Vinny Gala hitless.

In the bottom of the 8th with two outs, Nick Berdine walked to lead off the inning. Gwin singled to right, and Ken Cool drove in the winning run with a single to center.

South Oakland’s 8-9-10 hitters came through with two outs to preserve the win in one of the best games I’ve played in for some time.

Anthony Defilippo, Rob Baumgartel, and Mike Cinefra also had hits for South Oakland.

Black Sox 9pm, Saturday night at Moore Park.

I have no clue about Cranberry except it’s full of yuppies and strip malls and I fucking hate it there.

Guthrie will start the opener.

We’ll will start the season short handed, as Mike’s Duffy and Fletcher won’t return until late May, and the Waynesburgh, Thiel  and Gannon University/College players won’t finish their seasons until mid-May.

I guarantee at least tree rainouts before then.

We’re built for post-season success and concede nothing.
