Ducks Win

2011 Ducks Baseball, Ducks win

Mark Guthrie was one out away from a no hitter, before allowing 2 singles in the top of the fifth as the Ducks (12-3) beat the Senators 10-0.

South Oakland plays Elliot (14-1) Saturday, 6pm at Herschel Park

Depending on the outcome of last night’s Black Sox Elliot game (a rare contest in which neither team name ends in ‘s’) a share of first place could be on the line for the Ducks.

If the Sox won we will be one behind Elliot in the loss column going into saturday.

Ducks Ride Express, Win 15-4 in Five Innings

2011 Ducks Baseball, Ducks win

How did Carrick play Elliot tough?

James Fago started and pitched 2 innings, Mike Cinefra got the win in relief pitching 2 strong innings before Mike Fletcher finished the game off in the fifth.

South Oakland of the North Side (11-3, 5-2 ) hit its first two homeruns of the year: a solo shot by deadline addition Jared and a three-run bomb by Rob Baumgartel.

16 different Ducks recorded plate appearances. South Oakland sent nine batters to the plate in the first and ten in the second it got out of hand quick.

Defilippo went 2 for 4, 2b, 3b 6rbi

#17’s coming down from the rafters tonight

We have ten games left. Realistically, to win the division we have to win the rest of our games and have Elliot lose at least once. It’s possible they’ll drop one in their last nine or so. They have Brookline twice and two against the Militia and I think either of those teams could steal one from Elliot if they get good pitching and defense.

I think Kenny Powers and Brookline win tomorrow.

We have to win out. One game at a time starting tonight with another division opponent in the confusingly-named Express.

I have no idea what this picture is

Let’s quack tonight. Bounce Back City.

Bad News for the Express

Ducks Lose 6-3 in Extra Innings

2011 Ducks Baseball

Jim Teyssier allowed 1 Er over 7 2/3 innings, but lost to Elliot pitcher, J.J. Barnes who earned the complete game victory.

The game was tied 1-1 after seven. The Ducks scored when a ball bounced over Elliot’s short stop. Elliot scored after a runner reached on an error, a sac bunt, and some guy singled with 2 outs to drive him in.

The Ducks had ten or so hits, but left guys on base. Baumgartel hit one off the wall in right in the fifth, and had an interesting line of 1-1, 2b, 2sac, bb.

So we went to extras and it didn’t go so well for South Oakland.

Elliot scored five runs in the top of the eighth: Wes White hit a solo home run with one out, and then four unearned runs happened.

The Ducks bounced back with 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth, but left the tying run on deck.

We’ll see ’em again.

With the loss, South Oakland falls to 10-3 and 4-2 in the Division. Elliot is still undefeated at 14-0 and 6-0 in the division. Now we have to root for the Black Sox to beat Elliot on Thursday.

We will take it out against the Express Wednsday.

Quack.

Ducks Win 10th Straight

2011 Ducks Baseball, Ducks win

The South Oakland Ducks of the North Side (10-2) defeated the Hebrew Oilers (2-10) 11-1 Saturday afternoon at Pie Traynor Field. Ducks pitcher and resident super hero, Mark Guthrie allowed 1 run through four innings on just 2 hits; he also hit a sweet RBI double. Fago struck out the side in the fifth.

The Ducks hit four triples on the day; two by Nick Berdine,  and one apiece by Tim Lipp and Anthony Defiippo. There might have been one more in there. The team slugging percentage skyrocketed and we hope to see our stats up soon on the league page.

Rick Whalen drove in a run with a sac fly in the 3rd, and 10 different Ducks had hits on the day.

South Oakland catcher, Jesse Smith threw out a runner trying to steal third in the first inning and had an RBI single.

Mike Duffy made several catches in centerfield, was hit by a pitch and singled twice for the Ducks.

The Ducks play undefeated, first place Elliot 9pm, Monday night at Springview Field.

StatDepot Registration

Uncategorized

Ok, I understand that it is a process and requires mastering the skill of 6 different computer languages, but everyone NEEDS to sign up on StatDepot for me to add stats. I have to go game-by-game so if all of you aren’t in there, I will not be putting up your stats thus far this season. If you have registered and your name is NOT on the roster on our NABA Team page, shoot either me or Ben a text so we know. Part of the process is on the other end with the Commish, so he may just be behind, but we will never know until you check it yourselves.

P.S. Batting practice before all home games at 7. Me included, we have not hit the ball well, especially at the top of our lineup. The bottom has carried us against some of the better pitchers in the league and most notably the last two games. If we can get enough people there then we can just field balls live off the bat and skip infield outfield and just focus on that.

Ducks Win Ninth Straight

2011 Ducks Baseball, Ducks win

South Oakland of the North Side (9-2) came from behind twice Monday night to beat the West View Sharks ( 5-3) 4-3.

Rob Baumgartel allowed 1 earned run over five innings. Mike Cinefra earned the win in relief after the Sharks took a 3-2 lead off reliever Garrett Mack in the top of the sixth.

Nick Berdine drove in the winning run with a two-run double to right in the bottom of the sixth inning after James Fago was hit by a pitch and Rob Baumgartel singled to left.

South Oakland looks to extend their win streak to 10 when they face Big Oil Saturday at noon at Pie Traynor Field.

Gameday [11] Ducks vs Sharks

2011 Ducks Baseball, Gameday

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side (8-2)

vs

West View Sharks (5-2)

9pm

Springview Field

I have no clue about the West View expansion team.  Hopefully they wear teal.

or multi-colored poly-cotton blend reminiscent of their name shake, the West Side Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang from the most famous musical adaptation of a Shakespeare play in history.

It takes balls to name your team after a tragedy about unrequited love.

Next year’s expansion team: The Murrysville Montagues.

I think there may be  former Matadors on the squad.

The Matadors are famous for trying to bribe both, former Ducks Manager TC Jones and current Ducks center fielder Rob Cool into throwing an adult league baseball game because they were pissed at the Commissioner for something ridiculous.

The Sharks appear to be solid, judging by their record in the not-as-good-top-to-bottom Allegheny Division, and a couple wins over good teams.

South Oakland of the North Side takes an 8-game winning streak into tonights game, coming of back to back shutouts of the Black Sox and Bulldogs respectively.

We can’t take this one lightly.

Sharks are at the top of the food chain, but also can be hunted, skinned and made into  wallets and sweet pants (see above).

Bad News for the Sharks.
