Game 1 Recap. Rust Never Sleeps: Ducks 1, Hurricanes 11

Uncategorized

more to the picture than meets the eye

The Canes were ten runs better than South Oakland on Monday.
Not a great way to open the season. The Hurricanes never trailed. The Ducks couldn’t get a key hit.
Rafalski had 11 RBI.
I’m not a believer in games being closer than the score indicates.
One positive, Ducks pitcher Mark Guthrie pitched four solid innings allowing 2 earned runs, striking out MVP Andy Rafalski 3 times. Captain’kept us in it.

The Fightin’s in their terrifying ninja-black uni’s led 2-0 going into the top of the fourth, after an infield hit or an error or maybe a walk had runners on first and second with one out. (It was hard to see them, like playing against smoke and eye-black and stirrups).
The Hurricanes’ seven and eighth batters singled in two runs and probably stole a couple bases putting Sto-Rox up 4-0.

Guthrie was lifted and the Ducks bullpen had trouble with command, allowing 7 runs, several maybe 5 earned, in the last two innings.

That’s the first time i faced Rafalski. He’s tough. He shut us down.
the MVP recorded something like 16 K’s, and I think we only had one or two hits.
Not the guy you want to face for your first live pitching of the season.
Hats off.
I hope we get another shot at these guys. We didn’t give them our best.

Mike Cimera (sp.) was 1-2 with a walk, 2 stolen bases and a run scored.
no one else, aside from Guthrie did much.
Kirk walked twice i think. Solid OBP%

We’ll be fine. But the intensity has to pick up.

South Oakland has a week off before facing the Edmonton Oilers Monday the 26th at 9pm.

I think Ducks legend, Matt Swetz, is an Oiler now.
If he had the same number all 3 years as a Duck I’d have retired it.

Losing is no fun.

We can still finish somewhere between 18-6 and 22-2, as has been projected by various sports books.
It’s important to peak at the right time.

  1. HEY THIS IS YODA AND IM HERE TO SAY THAT THE DUCKS ARE LOSERS FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO HIT THE CANES. THEY MIGHT HAVE SOME MVP OF THE CRAPPY NABA BUT THAT GUY WOULD BE A CAN OF CORN IN OUR LEAGUE. 'CANES PITCHING WOULD BE LIKE A LITTLE LEAGUER PITCHING IN OUR LEAGUE. NABA IS A JOKE!!!!!

  2. Here's my take on things. Not making excuses, just pointing out reasons. I feel a lot older than I did a year ago. Mainly because I graduated and can't play baseball everyday like I used to. It sucks growing up. So I wasn't very confident going into last night's game, and intensity is a byproduct of confidence. All we need is a couple games to get our confidence back and people will be talking about championships in no time. I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks this, I can be a dumbass sometimes.

  3. Wow, the Ducks are sounding a lot like most of the Gray Bats last year – excuses!! I ran out of 'em, believe me.Go Ducks, though. Big deal one game… 'Canes still somewhat overrated in my opinion.Maybe the dark uniforms were all a ploy by the Canes to take advantage of the Duck, I mean Dark Pond.

  4. i;m not sure how a team can be overrated if they are the defending champions and just ten-runned a team that finished 16-8 last season. thanks for the support though. We will play better.

  6. 9's not a duck. I'm not saying shit. we got handled. It was opening day for both teams, and we looked terrible the canes played well. they shut us down.we had 2 hits and only put the ball in play like 4 times. We were passive on the bases, and the canes made us make plays and we threw it around. I like how aggressive they play. If i didn't want another shot at them down the line, I wouldn't be a competitor. No one on our team has any room to say anything about a team that just beat us by ten runs, was the only team to beat a team that went 22-1 last season, and, has the title the other 11 teams are chasing. At least we know where the bar is set.We will play better.

  8. our #9 is retired, it's Swanger who commented earlier.not sure what is meant by asked to play them meaning the canes. I wouldn't ask to play anyone. although the canes did ask to blay the bsox as many times as possible this season.i'm looking forward to that rivalry intensifying.

  9. Deny. I didn't ask anyway. I wanted to ease in to the tough part of the schedule. i wanted non-conference games to open the season so i could get a look at all our new players with less pressure to play our best 9 the whole game, so i guess in that regard i got what i asked for. I still haven't seen all our players. thanks for reading.thanks for reading.

  10. The ducks now have a fan in Philadelphia, but it looks like you will have to generate some new lady fans in Pittsburgh this year… Is Coby still #41? Because I wore that shirt the other day. Sorry about the rough first game. I received a late night text from duck's #1 fan Donnie Q informing of the loss. I think all it will take to turn this season around is a big Duck's party and some crayon art.
