Game Day [1] Ducks at Oilers, 9pm Spring View Field

2011 Ducks Baseball, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side (0-0)

at

Hebrew Oilers (1-0)

9pm,  Springview Field

Naturally we’re the away team at our home field tonight.

It looks like April in Pittsburgh outside so who knows if we’ll get the game in.

Last year our 3-2 victory over the Oilers sparked a 15-1 run to end the regular season including a 13-game win streak after a 4-6 start.

We’ve got to get out of the gate faster this season.

Big Oil knocked off defending regular season champ Brookline, 4-2 on Monday in the only game to have been played this season.

Fightin’s vs. Elliot tonight should be interesting too.

School’s almost out, so the ducks blog will hopefully rise back to 2008-09 standards.

I wonder if they still have those sweet gold helmets?

The Oilers did.

It’s Captain vs. Warren Moon tonight, if the rain holds off.

5-time CFL Champion, former Eskimo.

NABA Champion.

Bad News for Big Oil

Oilers Set Rotation to Stun

2011 Ducks Baseball

Amidst a flurry of shit talking via email correspondence, Big Oil boasted of their ability to receive government subsidies and enjoy tax-free status, while the middle class, as represented by the blue collar Brookline Black Sox and manager, Kenny Powers, continues to shrink and pay $4.00 a gallon.

South Oakland has a healthy respect and disdain for our long time rivals in Brookline who have been busy collecting seasonal unemployment and tossing beer kegs and cinder blocks at one another as part of an intense off-season conditioning program.

I imagine words insinuating milkshake drinking were thrown about while Oil management sauntered about Brooks Brothers buying polo shirts during lunch hour, and unwittingly hit ‘reply all’ on on of their team iPhones.

Big Oil plans to throw their ace tonight against Brookline with a game against the defending champion Ducks on Wednesday.

Clearly they think we’re a bunch of pussies. I don’t know what other conclusion can be logically drawn.

In other news, I finally saw There Will Be Blood, and the Oilers homepage finally makes sense. Solid flick.

Well played there for sure.

Ironically, the Black Sox picked  their new team slogan, “Use a fucking piano leg with a nail in it if you have to,” from another Daniel Day Lewis movie, Gangs of New York.

If it doesn’t get rained out it should be a good one tonight at Spring View, as the revamped Big Oil squad takes on the always dangerous, Black Sox in a 2010 semifinal rematch.

Quack.

Redundancy

2011 Ducks Baseball, pittsburgh NABA

Cranberry brings an imposing starting rotation and a very shrill voice to the Allegheny Division in their inaugural season

No word if suspenders are part of the uniform.

Jack White for President.

Ducks,

Register online at pittsburghnaba now and send money if you still owe outstanding dues.

Once again,

send checks made out to Ben Gwin to

PO box 9181

Pittsburgh, PA, 15224

Still waiting on the final cost per player. My fault there.

There are several players who have paid me nothing, this is not ideal.

If nothing changes it’s going to be over 250 thanks to the uniforms, but they look great and we won’t have to get new ones for eight more years.

This number should drop.

You won’t have to buy a hat if you still have last year’s and want to save a few bucks.

Anyone who wants a breakdown of costs let me know and I’ll pass it along.

If you’re sick of lame posts about admin shit that (almost) no one wants to help with and finances, then send in your money and I’ll get back to writing lame posts about amateur baseball that no one wants to read.

Seriously we will forfeit games if we have to.

See Win Win. It’s hilarious.

Still waiting on news of the final amount of the contribution from Fago’s benefactor.

***

I have no clue about Cranberry except it’s full of yuppies and strip malls and I fucking hate it there.

Guthrie will start the opener.

We’ll will start the season short handed, as Mike’s Duffy and Fletcher won’t return until late May, and the Waynesburgh, Thiel  and Gannon University/College players won’t finish their seasons until mid-May.

I guarantee at least tree rainouts before then.

We’re built for post-season success and concede nothing.

quack, quack.

Schedule

pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball, who names their team the Rebels?

The Ducks will play a double header vs. the Michigan Militia at Gateway Middle School Saturday at 10am.

These games will determine seeding in the end of season tournament. Finishing ahead of the Militia is important and will allow us to play only A teams in the first two rounds, or potentially the Eagles who are barred from playoff participation due to forfeits [4].

We’re playing for the 5 seed – the top two teams in A and AA will get the 1-4 seeds.

If you are bored at a job that grants you access to the internet, and you want to learn about a really offensive militia group, check out this link to a “Rocky Mountain Militia” video – Terrifying, but includes an incredible she-mullet at the 7:40 mark.

“Militia” indeed.

John and Dan keep shitting the bed with new team names, poor guys.

Anthony DeFilippo will join Jesse Smith as team Captain through the remainder of his contract, which runs through the 2030 season.

We miss you, Kirk.

Gameday [21] Ducks at Black Sox

Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks (15-5, 5-1)

vs.

Brookline Black Sox (14-5, 5-2)

9pm

Moore Park

That’s the mindset you got to be in if you want to be a champion.

First, Ducks News:

Anthony DeFilippo has signed a 20 year extension with South Oakland, making him a Duck for life.

Ken “The Windmill” Cool has been promoted to co-manager.

The All Star Game will be held Aug 8th at a location to be determined, hopefully not Spring Hill.

There are many Ducks deserving consideration.

I feel like league-wide numbers are bloated this season due to some lopsided games vs. A teams.

Despite their prowess with explosives, the A-team is not very good at baseball.

Tomorrow’s game vs. the Knights will be replaced with a game against the Militia, that game may be moved to Monday or Wednsday. (I know; there’s a lot up in the air right now as we try to get the season finished before the playoffs.)

The Knights game will be rescheduled.

A Ducks win tonight keeps South Oakland in first place and alive for the division title.

If the Black Sox win, the Ducks have to hope Brookline looses to the Eagles and South Oakland sweeps the Militia whenever those games are rescheduled.

Tonight will be a defining moment in the history of the Ducks franchise, I write that without hyperbole or melodrama.

The road to the Wales Conference title goes through Brookline and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

The Ducks can shrug off the weight of seven years of loosing to the Black Sox with a win tonight.

Tish and Fago are gonna tag team this one.

gameday nineteen: ducks vs. bulldogs

Bulldogs, Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

Game 19:

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side(13-5)

vs.

Pittsburgh Bulldogs (14-3)

9pm

Spring View Field

Aside from RBI (9 for 28+ Dogs, to 4 for Ducks) I have better numbers for the Ducks than the over 28 Bulldogs in six more plate appearances. I don’t know what that means, you’d think with the tougher pitching, etc..So it goes.

Don’t forget to change your signs for the game tonight, BJ.

…and bring me my duck, you sons of bitches.

The Bulldogs lost to the Militia Saturday, I can’t imagine they put out the same lineup that beat the HURRICANES! the week before.

I’ve got inside info on the Bulldogs new fight song.

kind of depressing, but you can’t argue with a winner.

A South Oakland victory will put our franchise at 80-80-2 all time.

It would also be our ninth straight on-field W, as the Titans win was a forfeit.

the Ducks’ #9 is retired worn by Rob Swanger who, in three seasons, never played on a winning Ducks team.

Let’s get back to .500, and keep rolling into the battle of Monroeville this weekend.

A win also gets us recap rights on the Bulldogs site. Their blog actually gets read, so that’s huge.

Gameday 17: Ducks vs. Matadors

Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side(11-5, 4-1)

vs.

Etna Matadors (9-8)

6:15pm

Etna Field

The Ducks beat the Matadors 4-3 in extra innings, when Ken Cool drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.

the last time we were supposed to play the ‘Dors, God tried to wipe Etna off the face of the earth with repeated dispersion of lightning  bolts and torrential rain, leading to a cancellation and subsequent rescheduling for today.

All of the sudden we have a shit load of games in the next two weeks.

Let’s make it eight straight W’s.
