Playoffs

pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland opens the playoffs against the Knights Saturday, 9am at Laroche College.

The winner of that game will play the Maulers Sunday August 1st at 3pm.

The winner of the Maulers game plays in the semifinals at the Duck Pond, Monday night at 9pm.

There’s a big opportunity to play on our home field with a shot at the title on the line.

We will not take the Knights lightly.

The Maulers are solid as well, and have played us close in two games this season and beat us in April.

Our team was built for playoff success, but anything can happen in the single elimination rounds.

Quack.

Ducks Sweep Militia

Ducks win, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland (18-6) defeats division rival Michigan Militia(13-9), 5-3, and 11-2.

South Oakland sets a record for wins in a season with the sweep.

probably not recapping this.

Ducks pitching was fantastic – Baconator, Mike Cinefra, James Tessyier, and Mark Guthrie combined to allow very few runs on the day.

Stats will be updated soon.

former Duck, Jeremy Barchie played a phenomenal center field for Michigan.

playoff schedule to be released shortly.

Be ready to play Saturday morning.

The Ducks will scrimmage Elliot of the Fed League Wednesday, 7pm at Herschel Field in Greentree.

Congrats to the Maulers on winning the A division regular season title.

Gameday 23/24: Ducks at Militia

Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks at Michigan Militia

The 5-12 seeds are set for the playoffs.

The Hurricanes won their division, and the Bulldogs clinched the five seed with a win over the Warriors Thursday.

The Ducks are the sixth seed, and the Militia are the seventh seed.

This could be a semi-final preview today.

The Ducks won’t face an AA opponent till the semis should we get past the Titans in round 1 and the Maulers/Oilers in round 2.

A win today will set a new Ducks record for regular season victories, eclipsing last year’s total of 16.

The Bulldogs are ranked fifth and will potentially play the Hurricanes again should the Canes beat the Black Sox two of three, which, given Alex Warren’s injury, i may happen.

Kenny Powers deserves MVP consideration.

For South Oakland Rob Cool has put up unreal offensive numbers after a slow start and has solidified the outfield.

Good coaching is responsible, clearly.

Rob Cool and Jimmy Fago, just chillin'

Tessyier is my pick for pitcher of the year, he only pitched against our toughest opponents down the stretch and shut down everyone.

He allowed one earned run in eleven innings vs. the Black Sox this season.

Obviously, Ken Cool for coach of the year.

Bad News for the Militia.

Quack.

Playoff.Brackets.2010

the above link is also in the handouts section on the main site.

Seeds 5-10 determined by overall record among “AA” teams. Seeds 11&12 determined by overall record among “A” teams. -except the Eagles are now ranked 12 and are eliminated from playoff contention.

Something tells me the Warriors may have forfeitted too many games also, so who knows with that.

Seeds 1-4 are the AA champ and runner up, then the A champ and runner up.

the Ducks are 10-5 vs. AA teams, losses to the Sox, Canes (2) and Bulldogs the Bulldogs (10-3) lost to the Canes today.  the bulldogs play one more game against the maulers so they are done as far as AA games go i think.  We have them 20-11 in the net.

would you rather play the A champ in round 2 and the AA runner-up as the six seed, or the A runner up in rd. 2 and then the AA champ in the semis as the five seed?

the Militia are 6-6 in AA play, over half their wins are against A teams. They are set in the seven spot according to the disclaimer at the bottom of the bracket i copied above.

8-11: Warriors, Matadors, Titans, Knights, and the Eagles are still ineligible.

The Eagles franchise is a disgrace to baseball at any level. They are compromising the whole playoff format and i feel bad for the few guys on that team who give a shit about baseball.

there could be an interesting match  up in the 7-10 seed game if its Militia vs. Matadors, but then that might be militia vs. Titans since the eagles folded.

there could also be a Bulldogs Oilers matchup in the 6-4 second round game.

The Maulers overtook Big Oil for the AA regular season title.

fucking cheaters.

what a mess.

anyway, it’d be great to beat the Hurricanes and the Sox on the way to the championship, which is what we will probably have to do.

The road to the semis is wide open and I like our pitching depth against anyone’s.

we can’t finish worse than the six seed.

The eagles are ineligible. Adam Smith appeared in 15 games for the Ducks last season pitching 47 innings (team high for innings pitched). for a team that went 16-8. this season the Eagles only played 15 games total thanks to forfeits and Smith missed at least four games, so that leaves 11 games or 77 innings (not counting ten-run rule games) which is 12 more than Adam played last season.

So, Adam left a top-three team to play approximately half an inning more per game over a stupid resentment against one of the most likable guys in the league, TC Jones. Great decision, enjoy not having to be embarrassed in the playoffs.

Really only five teams have a shot at it, so it’s kind of like the majors in that respect. It’s nice to be one of those five teams.

quack.

Schedule

pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball, who names their team the Rebels?

The Ducks will play a double header vs. the Michigan Militia at Gateway Middle School Saturday at 10am.

These games will determine seeding in the end of season tournament. Finishing ahead of the Militia is important and will allow us to play only A teams in the first two rounds, or potentially the Eagles who are barred from playoff participation due to forfeits [4].

We’re playing for the 5 seed – the top two teams in A and AA will get the 1-4 seeds.

If you are bored at a job that grants you access to the internet, and you want to learn about a really offensive militia group, check out this link to a “Rocky Mountain Militia” video – Terrifying, but includes an incredible she-mullet at the 7:40 mark.

“Militia” indeed.

John and Dan keep shitting the bed with new team names, poor guys.

Anthony DeFilippo will join Jesse Smith as team Captain through the remainder of his contract, which runs through the 2030 season.

We miss you, Kirk.

Black Sox Clinch Wales.

pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland (16-6, 5-2) lost to the Brookline Black Sox, and when astonishingly, the Eagles didn’t give a shit about fielding a team and forfeited to the Sox today, Brookline clinched the Wales Conference and will play for the one seed in the playoffs against either the Hurricanes or Bulldogs at sometime in the near future.

South Oakland also won by forfeit today when the Knights only had seven players show up.

Why have the Eagles and Knights not merged?

It’s ridiculous. Maybe even merge with the Titan’s too and have one competitive team.

The Eagles and Knights are scheduled to play on wed. night at SpringView, if they will let us, the Ducks will play against both teams instead of a 7 on 7 game.

No way am I recapping the Sox game.

We played poorly and without a few key guys who normally start.

Usually smart Ducks  players made bad base running decisions and Brookline’s Peter “Pan” Chalfin pitched a phenominal game, striking out 15 Ducks.

There is nothing the Ducks want more than a shot at redemption in the playoffs.

Brookline’s catcher is a joke. Other than that, they are predominantly good ball players who play hard and feed off their exceptionally dedicated, drunk, fan base.

Moore Park is a tough place to play.

Hats off to Kenny Powers on a good season and another division title, you bastard.

South Oakland will finish up the regular season with two games vs. Militia location and date tbd.

South Oakland will eclipse last season’s win total with a victory.

I think we should assume the Knights and Eagles won’t be able to get a game on wed. night and play then.

It’s gonna be a mexican stand off to see who cancels first.

I hope Adam Smith is happy with his decision to leave a team with a .727 winning percentage for more playing time on a 4-13 team that forfeits every other game.

Irony?

A post dedicated to the end of the careers of two long-time Ducks, both of whom played instrumental roles in turning around the franchise, in the upcoming weeks.

Gameday [21] Ducks at Black Sox

Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks (15-5, 5-1)

vs.

Brookline Black Sox (14-5, 5-2)

9pm

Moore Park

That’s the mindset you got to be in if you want to be a champion.

First, Ducks News:

Anthony DeFilippo has signed a 20 year extension with South Oakland, making him a Duck for life.

Ken “The Windmill” Cool has been promoted to co-manager.

The All Star Game will be held Aug 8th at a location to be determined, hopefully not Spring Hill.

There are many Ducks deserving consideration.

I feel like league-wide numbers are bloated this season due to some lopsided games vs. A teams.

Despite their prowess with explosives, the A-team is not very good at baseball.

Tomorrow’s game vs. the Knights will be replaced with a game against the Militia, that game may be moved to Monday or Wednsday. (I know; there’s a lot up in the air right now as we try to get the season finished before the playoffs.)

The Knights game will be rescheduled.

A Ducks win tonight keeps South Oakland in first place and alive for the division title.

If the Black Sox win, the Ducks have to hope Brookline looses to the Eagles and South Oakland sweeps the Militia whenever those games are rescheduled.

Tonight will be a defining moment in the history of the Ducks franchise, I write that without hyperbole or melodrama.

The road to the Wales Conference title goes through Brookline and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

The Ducks can shrug off the weight of seven years of loosing to the Black Sox with a win tonight.

Tish and Fago are gonna tag team this one.

Bad News for the Black Sox

Gameday 20: Ducks vs Eagles

Gameday, pittsburgh NABA, South Oakland Ducks Baseball

South Oakland Ducks of the North Side (14-5, 4-1)

vs.

South Side Eagles (4-12, 0-6)

9pm

Springview Field

Just when it looked like the league was finally beyond the point where teams wouldn’t be able to put nine on the field, we find ourselves facing an opponent who has forfeited two division games, and generally doesn’t seem to give a shit.

If NABA legend Playmaker were still around, the Eagles would not struggle to put nine on the field.

The Eagles should be disbanded, or forced to carry more than six guys. Merge them with the Knights, or the Titans.

I do give their coahc credit for not wanting to play in the A division, unlike Big Oil, who will switch divisions with South Side next season if I understand how this new system works.

The Ducks, winners of ten straight, have outscored the Eagles 24-5 in two games this season.

The Bulldogs lost 4-3 to the Canes, setting up a rubber match for the title sometime in the near future.

We play the Knights on the 17th.

We will probably play the Black Sox Thursday, July 22nd and the double header against the Militia on the 24th.

Big weekend  potentially.

Another round of power rankings

  1. Hurricanes
  2. Bulldogs
  3. Black Sox
  4. Militia
  5. Matadors
  6. Maulers
  7. Oilers
  8. Warriors
  9. Knights
  10. Eagles
  11. Titans

Bad News for the Eagles.
