South Oakland of the North Side has agreed to terms with 2008 League MVP, James Fago.
James will add depth to the rotation and platoon at catcher till Scioscia gets here.
We will finally have the Homa to Fago battery.
Huge.
On paper it’s the gayest since Rankin to Graff.

The Bulldogs need a mascot.

South Oakland plays three games in three days starting with the double header Saturday, and a 9pm match Monday, at the Duck Pond against the Matadors.
Then we have five days off and play three more games in three days: Sat 8:30 at John Herb the Hair of the Dog Match vs. the Bulldogs.
A Sunday afternoon matinee against THE HURRICANES!!!
and a Monday night rematch against Kenny F-ins Powers and the B-Sox.

Pending the outcome of conference tournaments, exam schedules and such, this week will mark the arrival of Fago and a bunch of other kids who should help the offense – some of whom played on the team which lost to the sox in the semi’s last season, and some who did not.

We should have everyone for the 5/17 tilt vs. Brookline.

South Oakland pitcher Rob “Baconater” Baumgartel struck out 9 and allowed 2 hits over six innings and Tony Casale went 3-4 with two doubles, 2RBI to lead the Ducks (1-3) to their first victory of the season.
TC Jones struck out 3 in one inning of relief.

The Maulers fell to 1-5

Guthrie, Duffy and Baumgartel also had RBI’s for South Oakland.

South Oakland will play a home-and-home double header at Ohio River Blvd. Field against fierce intra-conference rival the Emsworth Warriors, 12pm this Saturday.

South Oakland of the North Side’s 0-3 start includes a loss to the expansion Maulers the second game of the season, in which the Ducks blew a 2-0 lead and gave credence to those calling for a simplified two division format.

The extra ‘e’ has been for ‘Error.’

South Oakland has yet to regain the form which earned the team 17 wins last season.

We need a revival.

Bad News for the Maulers

South Oakland is 0-3.
The most entertaining part of the season has been the back and forth between the HURRICANES! and the Black Sox on the blog.

South Oakland tries to right the ship Monday night against the Maulers.

The game Monday is as big as a non-conference game against an A Division team gets.

I missed the first 3 innings of the game due to work.
Bizarro Alex Warren pitched a solid game, working out of trouble, and pounding the zone, like another Warren I’ve seen pitch for Brookline.

We played to a 1-1 tie in the last three, but the damage had been done by that point.

Sloan hit a triple for Brookline — he’s the only kid who doesn’t have a GPS ankle bracelet on that team and he can fly.

For South Oakland, Cinefra looked good in relief.

Wojton hit one to the wall in left center and was thrown out at third.
That ball is out of any other park.

We left a lot of guys on base, couldn’t string anything together, and made some errors.

Moore, F-ing Park; the soccer goal in canter, the bald spots in the outfield, the hole in the batter’s box.
And that guy screaming “Kenny Powers!” all game.
It’s the Pittsburgh NABA at it’s finest.

That’s how our season ended last year.
We lost 1-0 and 9-7 to the Sox during the regular season, we beat Kenny Powers 5-3 or something early in the season.

one run separated us is three regular season games. One run separated us in a game and a half in the playoffs.
Both teams improved over the off-season.
Both teams altered their uni’s but once again, the Black Sox chose against this logo:

nor did they go the obvious route and work with the sweet 1980’s White Sox logos

I think this was the inspiration for their re-invented look:

Kenny can’t keep getting away with changing his uni’s and not going with the best white sox logo ever, or the mustachioed guy from the Denver Black Sox amateur team.

Bad News for the Black Sox.

Don’t get too high, and don’t get too low.
We lost to an elite team and a team in the sub-division.
We’ll be OK.
If we can’t get up to play the Black Sox we should disband, join the bulldogs and drink ourselves into a coma before we get into a bar fight.

After a a 3-hit loss to the A Division Maulers (1-4), Ducks (0-2) have recorded only 4 hits through two games.

The Maulers return to the Pittsburgh NABA after a few years absence.

History Lesson:
Howard Zinn: Historian. Patriot. Ducks Fan?

The first game in South Oakland Ducks’ history was a 10-2 loss to the Maulers. A game in which Ben Gwin pitched.

The Ducks defeated the Maulers to win their first and only Championship in 2003, a year in which it was common to have guys pulled out of the stands to play right field in flip flops and khaki shorts.

The Ducks have not won a title during a season in which the Maulers did not exist.
We’re happy to have them back, and I commend the Commish for naming the expansion teams the Knights and Maulers, although the Arthropods would have been nice.

Only Kenny Powers and two guys on the Warriors get that joke.

Speaking of Kenny Powers and the Commish,

The Bulldogs defeated the Ducks’ arch Nemesis Brooklne Black Sox 11-8 Teusday night.

Ducks Black Sox on Saturday.
The Blog will be moving to Word Press before that game, it will be great.
Moore Park will be rowdier than Western Psych at med time.

I have no idea what a Mauler is. One who Mauls I guess, like a wolverine or a land mine or a zombie?

We can only assume they’ve incorporated Aaron Burr into their uni’s.

The Maulers lost a 6-4 nail-biter to the Fightin’s over the weekend.
We can’t over look this one on the way to the steel cage match against the Sox.
